The BVPA logo, which appears here and on our home page, shows an unidentified bird which seems to be vulning (wounding) itself to nourish or revive its young with its blood. This stance is traditionally seen in the heraldic pelican, a symbol of charity, love, and piety, which is described as “being in its piety” when adopting it.

PS:- the inaugural meeting of the BVPA took place on May 30th 1956, at Weybridge (see Vet Record June 16 1956, p 382 for committee/office bearers), but no mention was made of the logo!
