Dr Charlotte Commins
Charlotte began her veterinary education at the Royal Veterinary College, graduating in 2014. After qualifying, she immediately undertook an internship programme and went on to spend over seven years with the Slate Hall Group. During this time, she worked extensively with broilers, broiler breeders, and commercial layers and contributed to several research projects within the practice.
Charlotte joined the British Veterinary Poultry Association (BVPA) committee in 2018. With a strong commitment to promoting poultry knowledge across the veterinary profession, she became the BVPA representative on the British Veterinary Association (BVA) Council, ensuring the voice of poultry vets was well represented. She later took on the role of BVPA Treasurer, supporting funding for poultry research and professional development opportunities for members, while also gaining a reputation for selecting excellent wines for BVPA dinners.
In 2023, Charlotte was invited to serve as Junior Vice President and proudly became BVPA President in 2025.
Alongside her BVPA work, Charlotte is a full-time member of the veterinary team at Aviagen, a primary breeding company. Her role focuses on supporting the great-great-grandparent and hatchery operations. Outside of work, she keeps busy raising her one-year-old and chasing after two lightning-fast, tiny greyhounds.
