Zoe Treharne
Zoe graduated from the Royal Veterinary College in 2015 and initially worked in mixed practice before transitioning to small animal practice. In 2018, she joined the Animal and Plant Health Agency (APHA) as a Veterinary Investigation Officer and became a member of the Avian Expert Group. In 2022, she became Veterinary Lead of the Avian Expert Group.
Zoe completed a Master’s degree in International Animal Health at the University of Edinburgh in 2025, focusing on poultry diseases, with her literature-based dissertation exploring Enterococcus cecorum infections in broiler chickens.
Zoe’s main interest is disease surveillance to detect new or re-emerging diseases. This aligns with a strong interest in promoting collaboration between poultry veterinarians, producers, industry bodies, and researchers to ensure the prompt detection and characterisation of new and re-emerging diseases. As part of this, she co-supervises a PhD in avian surveillance, evaluating the effectiveness of current systems and identifying novel data sources.
